Dear Valued Customer,

In the horriffic aftermath of hurricane Katrina, tens of thousands of families are left broken, without homes and with only a small glimmer of hope to hold on to. While all Americans will now feel the after effects of this national tragedy, no lives have been so dramatically shaken as those directly effected by this disaster. Even though the gulf coast is half way across the country, many here also have lost loved ones and seen their lives forever changed. As helpless as this may make us feel, there is something we can do.

The American Red Cross and The Salvation Army were among the first on the scene to help aid those in need and they now need our support. Always Shred of California is calling upon all those who are able, to join us in the effort to help those who have lost everything recover the shattered pieces of thier lives. Below are links to both the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army's donation pages. We ask that you give generously so that America can be rebuilt and it's people given back thier hope. "God bless America and may she be in our thoughts and stedfast prayers."

Sincerely,
Tyler Mackey & The Always Shred Family

It’s The Law
The law requires that you comply with regulations set up to protect certain information when it is discarded.

An increasing number of laws require organizations to shred with fines for violators.

Federal Laws, such as HIPPA (healthcare) and Gramm-Leach-Bliley (financial) require specific safeguards, such as shredding, to meet compliance and avoid penalties and fines.

Protect Your Customers
By providing a service to you customers you have an "implied contract" to protect personal and trade information just based on the fact that you are collecting data to conduct business. It is then your responsibility to take precautions to protect it, including shredding it before it is discarded.

Protect Your Employees
It is the legal right of your employees to have their personal information such as employment applications, time cards, incident reports, health records and even attendance records, protected by shredding before it is discarded.

Protect Your Trade Information Rights
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that you forfeit the right of ownership to discarded information. The courts have demonstrated that they will not recognize trade information protections if a company does not take every step to protect it themselves.

Introducing FACTA
(Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act)

What is FACTA?
FACTA is a brand new federal law designed to reduce the risk of consumer fraud and identity theft by improper disposal of consumer information.

FACTA Requires the Destruction of Consumer Information before it is Discarded.

According to the FTC's FACTA DISPOSAL RULE, "any person who maintains or otherwise possesses consumer information for a business purpose" must properly destroy discarded consumer information.

The FCT's FACTA RULE further states that every person and/or business, "must properly dispose of such information by taking reasonable measures to protect against unauthorized access to or use of the information in connection with its disposal."

Reasonable measures are defined in FACTA as "burning, pulverizing, or shredding papers containing consumer information" or entering into "a contract with another party engaged in the business of record destruction to dispose of material, specifically identified as consumer information, in a manner consistent with this rule."

Potentially Severe Penalties Await Violators
You could be fined up to $4,500.00 by the State and Federal government for each violation.
